Amazon Emprende

Note: The content of this page was originally written in Spanish.

The Emprende Amazon Native Seed Center is a technical, scientific and community solution that contributes to reversing the point of no return of ecosystems degraded by deforestation. It is a model that generates gains in biodiversity (rescue of native seeds and planting of native seedlings in restoration areas), economic gains for peasant and indigenous communities (use and exploitation of seeds, nursery of native seedlings, implementation of restoration on their properties ) and finally, compliance with public and private restoration goals.

Maturity / stage of development

Sustainability of the project

Sustainability is given by the potential of the business model, based on the growing demand for high-quality native plant material for public projects (example: Government restoration goal 2022-2026: 753K ha) and private projects (ARR projects, with a potential greater than 6 million hectares).

Replicability of the project

The Native Seed Center is a scientific, technical and business model that is fully replicable in any ecosystem in Colombia and LATAM. The objective is to set up Seed Centers in the Andean region (2), the Caribbean (2) and Orinoquía.

Progress and impact tracking

The Seed Center has a Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) team that is responsible for systematizing, analyzing the data generated and building strategies to not only enhance positive environmental, social and economic impacts, but also generate risk management measures. .
