The problem we are solving
The decrease in fishing resources in the Yahuarcaca lagoon and stream system in Leticia, Amazonas, has serious impacts on the food sovereignty of nearly 105 artisanal fishermen and women from 7 communities that make up the TIKA Organization. Added to this is the low transformation and processing of fishing products, which is why fishermen receive less economic income from the sale of fish. This situation causes them to have to catch more and more quantities and have to double the fishing effort to thus cover the needs of the home.
The solution proposed
With the purpose of energizing the family economy of the fishermen of Yahuarcaca, a group of women from the TIKA Organization, has taken as an alternative for sustainable fishing production, the production of the food product "Fariña de Pesca" that contains a high nutritional contribution, it is handcrafted without preservatives and applies an ancient indigenous ancestral fish preservation technique. Based on the commercialization of fish fariña, the women of the TIKA Organization propose to add value and articulate the value chain of local fishing.
